This reinforcement is for the bonnet platform panel as fitted to Cooper S models at an angle to enable fitment of oil cooler. On 1966 Mini an onward. Originally these were held on by 2 pop rivets either end for all MK1 Cooper S.

Painted black they were even found on early MK2 S.
