An oil cooler plays an important role in controlling engine oil temperature, especially on performance engines, hard-driven road cars or vehicles used in warmer conditions. Keeping oil temperature under control helps protect bearings, maintain oil pressure and reduce engine wear.

WHY REPLACE YOUR OIL COOLER?

It is important to understand that an oil cooler is not designed to last the life of the car.

When an engine wears, fails or is stripped for a major overhaul, debris, sludge and metal particles can become trapped inside the old oil cooler. Because it is almost impossible to fully clean contamination from inside a used cooler, refitting an old oil cooler can risk sending debris straight back into your freshly rebuilt engine.

Replacing the oil cooler during a major engine overhaul is smart engine insurance.

Whenever carrying out a major engine rebuild, we strongly recommend replacing the oil cooler rather than reusing the old one. It is a relatively small cost compared with the damage that contaminated oil can cause to a rebuilt engine.
