Although removing the thermostat lowers engine temperature, a thermostat blanking sleeve must be installed to ensure proper coolant circulation throughout the head. If this isn’t done, the combustion chambers #3 and #4 would overheat, which will obviously have disastrous consequences. The by-pass hose between the head and water pump, which is absent from late heads, must also be blanked off when using the blanking sleeve.
