Originally they used to be brass oilway plugs: 2K1345Â fitted to engines and good engine tuners would remove them for cleaning sludge but these later cup type were introduced about 1985 and are much easier to remove and replace.Â
Note: There are 4 used on the large bore (1275cc) and only 2 used on small bore engines (850/998/1098cc).
