The brake master cylinder is the heart of the hydraulic braking system. If it is worn internally, leaking or bypassing fluid, the brake pedal may slowly sink to the floor, feel soft, or fail to build proper pressure. Fluid dripping near the brake pedal is also a strong sign that the master cylinder may be leaking and should be inspected immediately.

As this is a safety-critical brake component, fitting a genuine AP master cylinder is the proper choice for reliable braking performance.

IMPORTANT FITMENT NOTE

Brake and clutch master cylinders may look similar, especially on later models with plastic reservoirs, but they are not interchangeable. They are different internally and have different mounting feet.

The brake master cylinder has the larger mounting foot, while the clutch master cylinder has the smaller mounting foot.

FAULT DIAGNOSIS NOTE

A brake pedal that can be slowly pushed to the floor can indicate internal master cylinder wear or bypassing.

Fluid leaking down near the pedal area is a clear warning sign that the master cylinder should be checked, as brake fluid leakage can quickly become a serious safety issue.

BRAKE FLUID WARNING

Use only the correct DOT4 or DOT5 brake fluid.

These cylinders are not designed for other fluids such as Castrol SRF racing fluid or any mineral-based fluid. Using the wrong fluid can damage the seals and cause brake system failure.
