This lightweight steel flywheel is a serious performance upgrade for Mini owners wanting faster engine response, improved acceleration, and a more lively driving feel.

Weighing approximately 4.48kg / 9.88lb, this one-piece steel flywheel is significantly lighter than the original cast iron flywheel, helping the engine rev more freely and reducing the amount of rotating mass the engine has to accelerate.

Suitable Fitment

This flywheel suits non-Verto clutch applications using a non-pre-engaged starter.

Why Fit a Lightweight Flywheel?

A lighter flywheel does not increase horsepower by itself, but it allows the engine to accelerate through the rev range faster. This gives the car a sharper, more responsive feel, especially in the lower gears where rotating weight has the biggest effect.

The old saying is that removing 1lb from the flywheel can feel like removing a much larger amount of weight from the car. While not exact, it highlights how important flywheel weight is to acceleration and throttle response.

Weight Comparison

The standard cast iron 1275 flywheel weighs almost 22lb.

Even the Cooper “S” flywheel weighs almost 17lb.

This lightweight steel road flywheel weighs approximately 9.88lb, making it a major reduction in rotating mass compared with the original factory items.

Steel Construction for Strength & Safety

Original flywheels are cast iron, which makes them unsuitable and unsafe for heavy lightening. This new one-piece steel flywheel provides the weight reduction you want while retaining proper strength and safety for performance road use.

This style of flywheel was originally produced by Special Tuning and was even used by Leyland in Allegro applications to help reduce clutch judder under warranty claims.
